Who can live at HOEM?

Individuals aged 16+ with student status! You can be attending any instiution.

Where is HOEM located?

In the heart of downtown Toronto at 186 Jarvis Street.

When can I visit?

Whenever is best for you! You can book a personalized tour here.

Is HOEM accessible for those with disabilities/medical needs?

We will try our absolute best to meet your needs! We have a limited number of accessible suites. There is a Special Accommodations Form that can be filled out during the application process. This lets us know any special accommodations (accessible, medical or otherwise) you need.

Can I bring my pet?

Not a pet, but Emotional Support Animals (ESA's) are welcome! There is a Special Accommodations Form that can be filled out during the application process where you can submit documentations to register your ESA to stay with you! 

How far is HOEM to campus?

Just a couple songs if your headphones are in! We’re 6 minutes from the heart of the TMU campus, 20 mins to UofT & OCADU, 15 mins to George Brown and 8 minutes to CMU College. Check out the map on our main page for a full list of institutions near us.

How long can I live at HOEM?

Your choice! We offer three, two and one semester stays - for full dates and details see here.

How do I pay my housing instalments?

Housing fees can be paid via pre-authorized debit, online banking or wire transfer.

What do my housing instalments cover?

Housing fees, utilities, wifi, bi-weekly in suite cleaning, access to all events, workshops, amenities including 24 hour gym, fitness studio and all fitness classes.

What is a guarantor?

An individual who will take on financial responsibility on your behalf if needed. Guarantors can be domestic or international and credit checks are not required.

How do I secure my suite?

Housing confirmations are done on a first come basis! To secure a space, submit an application through the HOEM Portal, and accept your housing offer by making your initial housing installment payment.

When can I move in?

We offer a variety of housing terms to fit your travel and academic plans. See here for full housing term dates.

Do you offer accessible suites?

Yes! We have a limited number of wheelchair accessible suites located on various floors in the 4-bedroom suite style . There is a Special Accommodations Form that can be filled out during the application process where you can submit documentations to let us know any special accommodations (accessible, medical or otherwise) you need.

What do I need to bring with me?

Just your personal belongings! Your suite is move in ready and you can find a full list of what’s included here.

What appliances/furniture is in my suite?

When will I find out my roommate?

Current HOEMies who apply by June 1st and new HOEMies who apply by July 1st will be able to self select roommates through our roommate matching program! Already moving in with a friend in mind? You'll be able to just search their name and select them once the roommate self selection becomes available! 

What if something needs to be fixed in my suite?

Our maintenance team is on it! They are available to attend to anything that needs a little TLC.

Is there parking?

Yes! Underground parking is available to residents or guests for an additional fee.

Where do I pick up mail?

We have designated mailboxes and parcel lockers in the lobby for you to pick up any deliveries.

How will I know when there are events?

Follow us on Instagram to always know what's going on at HOEM! Check out our monthly event posters on every floor (right by the elevator button!), our newsletters and display screens for weekly event invites!

Does HOEM provide proof of residence?

Yes! Available for download through your HOEM Portal as soon as your space is confirmed.

Can I work at HOEM?

Yes! Student staff positions are available each year! Positions include Residence Advisors, Services Desk Agents, Content Curator, Digital Design Assistant, Videographer and HOEM Social Squad. Follow us on Instagram for updates on student staff job postings.

What is there to do in Toronto?

How can I get around?

We are located right by TTC streetcars, subways and bus routes as well as 15 minutes away from Toronto's Union Station, which connects the city to all over Ontario (and the rest of Canada!).

Can my child choose their roommate?

Yes! We have a self selection roommate matching process available to all new students who apply by July 1st.

Is your building secure?

At HOEM we place the highest priority on the safety and security of our residents. This is enforced with 24/7 reception, overnight security, and our live-in staff. In case of emergency, there are security, maintenance, and professional staff members on-call 24/7.

My child requires unique accommodation or has a medical condition. Who do I speak to?

We will try our absolute best to meet your students needs! There is a Special Accommodations Form that can be filled out during the application process. This lets us know any special accommodations (accessible, medical or otherwise) your student needs so we can support accordingly.

Does HOEM offer payment plans?

Housing fees are paid in instalments under a set schedule based on accomodation dates and suite style.

When is the HOEM office open?

The HOEM office is open Monday - Friday 10am - 5pm with drop in hours available from 1pm - 3pm.

Our Services Desk is open 24/7 with security coverage overnight.

Are the common spaces accessible?

Yes, all common spaces are accessible and open to all students.

Are there any other health and safety protocols in place?

We are following all guidelines set out by the Government of Ontatio with processes in place to support students impacted by COVID-19.

What if I test positive for COVID-19 while at HOEM?

We are following the most up to date guidelines set out by the Government of Ontario. We will connect directly with you and any other residents impacted by this result and support as necessary!
